Do you have a Godly Mindset? Did you know having a Godly Mindset takes work and it is a choice that we must make. Some people think that by going to church every Sunday and reading their Bible daily gives them a mindset that God would approve of.
I am here to tell you that just isn’t true! It is far from the truth. A Godly Mindset takes work and a lot of it. Being a Christian is not easy by any means. When we purposely do the right things by God the devil will attack that much harder.
In fact that is how you know you are on the right track with God. The devil will try everything to distract you and make you feel as if you are failing at everything. And I mean everything.
What A Godly Mindset Is Not
- A Godly Mindset is not reading the Bible and living your life as you please.
- It is not being a “Sunday Christian” meaning you go to church on Sunday praise the Lord and live life on your terms Monday through Saturday.
- Fixating your mind on earthly possessions instead of things above.
- Not “thinking on purpose”
To create and keep a Godly Mindset you must take a look at the environment in which you surround yourself. Have you ever heard the saying:
You become like the 5 people you spend most of your with.
It’s true! When I fell away from God I was surrounding myself with people who were not Christians and lived life as they pleased. I did exactly the same. And then I would blame God when things went south.
Most people don’t realize it but you sometimes have to cut loved ones out of your life to create a positive environment. Even choosing a church home can affect your positive environment.
If you attend a church that is full of negativity and gossip that will likely rub off on you and you too will become a bitter Christian. This will then follow you home and affect your loved ones at home.
Negativity is like cancer. It will eat at you until it destroys you!
Creating a positive environment doesn’t have to be hard. You do however have to make the choice to do so.
For me this meant I had to distance myself from negative people in my life. People who I used to spend endless hours with on a daily or weekly basis.
I pretty much went into hermit mode until I was able to take control of my thoughts and emotions. Now I’m not saying that is what you will have to do.
What worked for me may not work for you. But you must do something and now. The longer you choose to stay in a negative environment the worse your mindset will get.
Choosing to be in a positive environment will forever change your life. I know because it changed my life.
It is important to surround yourself with other Christians.
Having An Attitude Of Gratitude
Having an attitude of gratitude isn’t hard. I honestly feel that having an attitude of gratitude is one of the first steps to a positive environment.
Before I distanced myself from loved ones that had negative mindsets, I felt like the world was against me. Nothing and I mean absolutely nothing ever went my way.
Of course that was because I was getting exactly what I was focusing on. I will talk more on that in a bit.
Having an attitude of gratitude literally changed my life along with a positive environment. Simply showing gratitude for small things shows God that are you thankful.
A Bible story that comes to mind often is when Moses and his people wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. God took care of them as promised yet they were so ungrateful when He rained down the manta for them to eat.
Before you judge them you need to understand we often do the same thing on a daily basis. We are in fact no better than they were. In some cases we are probably worse.
For me one little thing could go wrong and it ruined my entire day sometimes my entire week. Of course this was my thinking and lack of gratitude.
When I changed my mindset and chose to have an attitude of gratitude I realized that things were nowhere near as bad I thought they were. I seen life in a whole new light!
I started by thanking God for things I never thanked Him for before. At the time I dove an ugly little turquoise blue Sunfire.
It was an ugly car but it got me from point A to point B. I drove that ugly little car for, I think, 2 years and my daughter for another year after that.
I have a Bachelor Degree but at the time I took a minimum wage job because that was all I could find. Everyday I thanked God for my paycheck. I tithed when I could and I kept an attitude of gratitude when doing it.
I lived with my parents and shared a twin mattress with my, then, six year old son. I hated it but I found a way to be grateful for a roof over our heads.
It didn’t take long and we were back in our own place and I was even able to buy a better car and give mine to my daughter.
I have since then found a way better job that pays three times what I made before. That job allowed me to purchase a Blogging Course that has also changed my life.
You see having an attitude of gratitude on purpose will lead to an attitude that comes naturally over time. And the best part is it will change your life and help you to keep a Godly Mindset!
Having a hopeful heart gives us an expectation that something good is coming our way. Hope used to not even exist in my vocabulary.
I noticed that
Once I started showing gratitude every day hope began to sprout in my soul.
It is important to understand that we can be hopeful for many things. And there isn’t anything wrong with that. However, we tend to get lost in the worldly hopes and not the Godly hopes.
For example, I have always loved to write. Every since I was a young girl I loved to write. It didn’t matter if it was a make believe letter or a journal it was still writing and I loved it.
When I got older I wrote a book or two and even self-published them. Later on I started a Blog it failed so I made another one. It failed so I changed my niche and it again failed.
Finally I shut it down and gave up. Then one day out of the blue I received an email from a Blogger I follow stating that Elite Blog Academy was open enrollment.
I don’t know what came over me. Maybe it was God maybe it wasn’t but it sure was a hopeful heart like I never before experienced.
I was at work when I received the email. I just knew in my heart that I could use the course to grow my new online store.
My husband agreed it was a good investment so I purchased it the first day!
Funny thing is God had other plans. He didn’t want me using the course for my new online store. Nope He wanted me to start a new Blog and I did just that.
I would be lying if I said it has been peaches and cream. Because it hasn’t been. It has been great at times, tough at times, and straight up sucks at times.
I even wanted to give up a few times. But my hopeful heart wouldn’t allow me to.
The hope is what carried me through to finally find a Theme I loved and niche I know I can write about and still help others while sharing my own humble confessions.
What You Focus On Grows
You get what you focus on. My old pastor once spoke those words and they have stuck with me since.
What you focus on grows. That’s just how life works. Whether we like it or not. We must deal with it.
If you the type of person that is always focusing on the bad then bad is what you will get. The same goes for good. Focus on the good things you will get good things. What you focus on grows.
Developing A Godly Mindset
When you read the Bible do focus on what it is saying? Do you do your best to live like Jesus? Do you leave church on Sunday with the intent to take what you learned into the world?
If you answered no to these then you do not have a Godly Mindset. Someone with a Godly Mindset focuses on the good. They take what they learn from the Bible and church into the word with them.
Believers are under a cosmic battle and much of this battle is centered in the mind. At least I know this is true for me.
The mind is a battlefield as Joyce Meyers puts it.
Developing a Godly Mindset has to be done on purpose. It is a choice we have to make and stick with even when things get tough.
I love reading stories in the Bible but I don’t like reading the Bible when it feels forced. Honestly, I don’t believe God wants to force ourselves to read the Bible. I believe He wants it to be a want or a need.
However, when we choose to develop a Godly Mindset on purpose things like reading the BIble begin to come naturally. We become needy for God and His Word.
And we become more like Jesus. Giving, loving, encouraging, and hopeful. Crosswalk has a great post on How to Develop the Mind of Christ by Jennifer Slattery from JenniferSlatteryLivesOutLoud.com ←— click to read.
Before I go I want to ask one last time, “Do you have a Godly Mindset?” If not what are you doing to develop one? If you answered Yes then what are you doing to keep your Godly Mindset?
