Have you ever heard the phrase The Devil made me do it? I have and honestly it is not a valid excuse. Eve tried to blame the devil in the Garden of Eden when she said the “serpent deceived me, and I ate” – Genesis 3:13.
God didn’t accept this excuse then and He won’t accept it now.
The Devil made me do it is nothing more than an excuse to cover up our own mistakes and sins. Truth is the Devil can’t make us do anything.
He can tempt us and he can tempt us good. Just as he tried to tempt Jesus in Luke 4:1-14 when Jesus was in the desert fasting.
You see he can tempt us but he cannot make us do anything. Except in the incident one is possessed. However, a believer cannot be possessed. The Holy Spirit will not allow it.
If you think about it it makes a lot of since. If God allowed the Devil to possess a believer while He lives inside of us then that would be giving the Devil the power. Power of which he will never have. Our God is mighty and will NOT be forsaken.
The Devil Uses Our Own Desires
Demonic possession is real whether you believe it or not. I believe it because that is what the Bible says.
Hard as it is to believe not all Christians believe everything the Bible says. (You can’t see me but I’m giving the “Side Eye”)
As it says in James 1:14
but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.
We as Christians have no excuse when we sin. It is simply an act that we acted upon that stemmed from our own fleshly desires.
1 John 4:4 and 2 Peter 1:3 talk about how we have the power inside of us through the Holy Spirit to overcome sin and live a Godly life. It is up to us to recognize it and live by it and stop blaming the Devil for our own actions.
If you fail to realize that the problem resides from with in then you will never have true peace with God. I know I have been there.
If you are a believer and you say The Devil Made Me Do It then you are pretty much calling God a Liar (1 John 4:4).
The Devil can influence and tempt us daily but he can’t make us do anything we don’t want to. He just doesn’t have that kind of control.
God will never allow us to bear more than we can handle. And He will always provide us the way as it says in 1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
My Own Battle With The Devil
If you don’t my story I will keep it short but to the point. I was raised in church. By the age of 8 maybe a little younger I was saved by grace and accepted Jesus into my heart.
As I reached my teenage years I slowly slacked away from God and began to use the Devil as my escape goat. The Devil made me drink that tequila and he made me sleep with that guy I didn’t know.
It was always the Devils fault. Don’t you know?
Once I fell away from God in my teen years I struggled for many years to get back to God. Looking back I now know it could have been so much easier if I had just stopped blaming the Devil for everything.
In my college years if I was too hung over to get up and go to class it was the Devils fault. Didn’t feel like going to work and lost my job well that was the Devils fault too!
I can’t forget about all the times I forgot to oil in my cars… that was the Devil too because he was trying to sabotage me.
Funny thing is the Devil wasn’t even worried about me. He already had me right where he wanted me, not walking beside God.
Instead, I was sabotaging myself and my relationship with God. The Devil was too busy focusing on Christians who had it all together to be worried about me. That is who he wants. But he still has no control over you.
If the Devil made you do it then take a moment and pray over this. Pray that God helps you to see the truth.
By simply recognizing the Devil made you do nothing and it was your own choice you are already one step ahead!
