Do you have big dreams but don’t believe you could ever achieve them? Did you know God places dreams in our hearts all the time? He does and sometimes those dreams are big and scary and makes our heart skip a beat just thinking about it.
God-Given Dreams definitely take us out of our comfort zones. Sometimes your God-Given Dream might not be your dream at all.
I like to say “God has a sense of humor!” Just look at some the creatures that swim in the Ocean and crawl the earth. And of course there is us, His children, can’t forget about us.
As humans, there are things our minds just can’t comprehend, like how God works for one. I think the term “God works in mysterious ways” is often understated.
Mysterious just doesn’t quite describe God and His many wonders. Wonders like you and me. Yes I said wonders because God created you for a reason just as He created me for a reason.
Hence why it is so sad that babies are being aborted and it is just the new norm that we are all supposed to be okay with. But that is another topic that I feel like I can’t talk enough about.
So, what is stopping you from going after or achieving your God-Given Dream? Is it because you have insecurities?
Did you know that you can do great things, things you never thought possible, with God by your side? It’s true!
I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. – Philippians 4:13
4 Insecurities Christians Face Most Often
- Impostor Syndrome – a psychological pattern in which an individual doubts his or her accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a “fraud”.
- Self Doubt – lack of confidence in oneself and one’s abilities.
- Perfectionism – refusal to accept any standard short of perfection.
- Approval from others – behavior is intended to get more approval and respect from others
There are several people in the Bible who struggled with the insecurity of Impostor Syndrome. Take Gideon as an example. In Judges 6:15-27 you can see that Gideon struggled with not being enough and felt like a fraud when asked to smite the Midianites as one man. He and his family were poor after all.
Just as impostor syndrome there are many examples of people in the Bible who struggled with Self Doubt as well.
Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and cruel bondage. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his country.” But Moses said to the LORD, “If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?” Exodus 6:9-12
Perfectionism although mentioned in the Bible many times, in one way or another, is something all Christians deal with.
As Christians we are already placed on a pedal stool. All eyes are on us at any given time just waiting for us to slip up and do something wrong.
I think the part most Christians don’t take time to see is the fact that we are so obsessed with how the outside world sees us we forget to stop trying to be so prefect all the time.
Christians who fall victim to perfectionism are the Christians that judge others.
I have seen this too many times. Christians can be just as snotty, stuck up, and cruel as easy a non-believer.
Approval Seeking is also something I see more often than not in churches. This is especially true for new believers or Born-Again Christians. The only approval you need is God’s Approval. Yet it is so easy to fall into the Approval Trap. I know I’ve been there.
Confessions Of My Own Insecurities I Had To Overcome
In 2012 I went on a Mission Trip with my daughter and the rest of the youth group with our church. Never had I felt more like an Impostor in my life.
Not feeling qualified made me feel more and more like Jonah when he ran from God.
Only difference is I went because if a whale ate Jonah I didn’t want to stick around and find out what might eat me! Long story short, it turned out to be a great trip. Only because I followed through and trusted God.
Self Doubt is something I deal with a lot especially as an entrepreneur. Since starting this very Blog I have woke up many mornings doubting myself and what I am capable of. I was ready to give so many times.
Pushing through and praying for God’s guidance is what got me through. I am only 3 1/2 months in but I have already accomplished more than I ever thought possible! Of course I couldn’t of done any of it with out God!
Perfectionism and Approval Seeking, oh my, where do I start? Perfection to me in a Christians eyes is someone who is successful, social, and active in church in activities. That is just my opinion because that is how I view perfectionism.
Approval Seeking on the other hand. Well this is something I dealt with and still do. I often am too busy wondering what others think of me to care what really matters; what God thinks.
There was a time in my life when everything came crashing down around me. A time I lost everything. During that time I seeked out the approval of others.
I did this by buying a car I couldn’t afford, staying in a commission job that I didn’t feel led to stay in, and even packed up and moved out of state, only to return a few weeks later.
Become the person God created you to be.
If you have any of these insecurities the best thing you can do is turn to God. I know that may sound easier said than done but it is the best thing you can do.
God has some pretty amazing plans for you. You just have to listen to Him and take the necessary actions to make your God-Given Dream a reality.
