Over the past couple years Journaling has become popular with Faith Journaling on the rise. It seems that everywhere I go, every channel I tune into, or web page I open someone is talking about Journaling. As a writer Journaling was something that just didn’t appeal to me. At least that is until I stumbled across Faith Journaling.
Faith Journaling has become my way of getting closer to God. It felt weird at first talking to God through a journal but then when I felt like He was talking back, everything changed!
It was through Faith Journaling that I truly felt like I could be honest with God. Sometimes it is hard for me and I stumble over my words. Getting off topic is also something that happens a lot with me.
Have you ever started praying about one thing and suddenly you are on a completely different topic? Happens to me all the time.
What about praying at night; do you fall asleep in the middle of a prayer? Again, I am guilty of this too.
Joyce Meyer once said if you want to fall asleep fast just thank the Lord for the things He has done for you. If you want to stay up then find things to worry about.
You know that is so true. There was a time in my life when I would lay in bed until 12:30 in the morning worrying. And would be right back up at 5am still worrying about the same thing I was worrying about the night before.
I learned the hard way through my trials that God is in control if we allow Him to be. Worry is something I laugh at.
Did you know Faith Journaling can help you get past worry? It’s true.
4 Benefits of Faith Journaling
There are many benefits to Journaling. But in this post I want to focus on the benefits of Faith Journaling.
For me journaling and using it in my faith has helped me grow closer to God. And it allows me to feel peace.
Journaling can be different for everyone. Like I mentioned earlier I didn’t even want to journal. I think it was mostly because I don’t care much for writing, literally, with pen and paper. Typing is more my mojo.
However, once I started I quickly realized it was actually really calming. So, calming I now look forward to journaling.
Faith Journaling will help you grow closer to God –
By simply thanking God for everything He has done for you and then moving on to what is worrying you, helps you to get it out.
When we keep things bottled up it tends to build and build. Until one day it has no more room to build on and we explode.
Why is it we never turn to God until it is almost too late? Journaling helps you give it to God right away.
Journaling will help you reach Goals –
Journaling can help you reach goals. Why is that? Because studies show that when we write a goal down we are 95% more likely to achieve it than when we don’t write it down.
So, think about that for a minute. If you are sharing your goals with God through a journal wouldn’t God be more likely to share His goals for you as well? Absolutely!
God is also more likely to help you in achieving a goal that you share with Him than one you do not share. He wants to help us but He will not do the work for us.
Journaling is good for the mind –
One of my favorite quotes is “You get more of what you focus on.” My old Pastor once said that and it has forever stuck with me.
If you journal daily then you are most likely to focus on the things you want. At least this is true if you use a guided journal (Check out my guided Journaling Time With Jesus – Journal). Guided journals help you to stay focused on the positive.
The last thing you want is a journal with nothing but negativity filling the lines of the pages. By using a guided journal you can stay focused on what matters most.
Become inspired from journaling –
As a blogger I belong to several Facebook groups. Sometimes I tend to overthink things and find excuses not to move forward with a project or make a purchase.
Instead, I head over to one of my many groups and I write a post asking my question, if I should and why should I. By the end, right before I hit post, I realize I just answered my own question.
No joke this happens to me almost every time! The thing is the same happens during faith journaling.
You see when we pray our minds are so busy trying to find the answer we just asked God for. But when we journal through faith journaling our minds are relaxed so the answers will sometimes come right to us.
For me it is during my scripture time.
God tells us over and over in the Bible to…
Yet we continue to be loud, obnoxious, and sometimes impatient. But through journaling you can calm all of those thoughts and…
Why You Should Use A Guided Journal
A guided journal will guide you on what to write about. For example my Journaling Time With Jesus journal guides you through Gratitude, Worries, and finally what God is trying to say to you.
For many years I never understood how God could talk to us. A crazy confession I feel I should share is how I used to wait to hear God’s voice.
Literally I would sit and wait to physically hear God’s voice just like I was talking verbally to my child or husband. It just never clicked that God talks to us through other Christians, feelings, and the Bible.
Inspired to Action has a great post on HOW JOURNALING HAS IMPACTED MY FAITH
Another thing I struggled with that a guided journal has helped me with is understanding what God is saying through scripture.
In my guided journal, Journaling Time With Jesus, each day there is one verse. Just one verse for you to look up and meditate on.
Have you ever noticed how Pastors will take one verse and preach an entire sermon on that one verse?
That is because the meat of what God is trying to tell us is in that one verse.
Just the other day I was writing in my Journaling Time With Jesus Journal and after reading the verse for that day and writing down what He was trying to say to me, I realized God was telling me to Trust Him.
How often do we go about our day and we worry or feel frustrated? It is in those times that we are not trusting God fully.
When we do what we can and give it our best and leave the rest up to God, He will work miracles around you like you have never experienced.
This is another reason Faith Journaling is so important. Stop waiting until things are so out of control you feel like God is no longer there.
Start giving your worries to Him from the start and live life to the absolute fullest. Stop struggling and start living the life God wants you to live.
Get to know God in a way you never knew Him before.
